Event FAQ

Overview

Here, we list some frequently asked questions from attendees and our answers to them.

1. What should I bring?

We recommend bringing the following to be prepared for the conference and participating in events:

  • A bag to carry your personal belongings (and to place your Welcome Kit into if you would like)
  • A pen/pencil for taking notes (a notebook will be provided!)
  • Presentation materials (if you are presenting)
  • Your mobile phone and a charger (consider a power bank)
  • A laptop/tablet if it would be useful to you
  • A water bottle

2. What’s In the Welcome Kit?

We are providing participants with the following materials:

  • Name Tag
  • Program of Events
  • “7 Things to Know about SEISMIC and The SELC Project” Hand Out
  • Information on nearby restaurants and activities
  • A folder
  • A notebook
  • A hat

3. What Should I wear?

Attendees are welcome to wear what they would like, but in the past the majority has dressed business casual. We also recommend comfortable shoes (there is a bit of walking planned), a jacket or sweater, and an umbrella and/or raincoat just in case.

Examples of business casual attire for tops include button-downs, blouses, sweaters, and polo shirts. Dress pants, skirts, and dress shorts are all examples of business casual bottoms.

4. How do I get from the Airport to the Hotel?

Individuals should coordinate transportation from the airport to UM. We will reimburse reasonable expenses from Michigan Flyer, Uber, Lyft, etc.

DTW is around 45 minutes away from Ann Arbor. Both Uber and Lyft are commonly used in southeastern Michigan. The Michigan Flyer does daily trips from Ann Arbor to DTW and from DTW to Ann Arbor.

5. Where do I park?

For our event, The Palmer Drive Parking Structure is available from 6 am to 10 pm Monday-Saturday, and is an 8 minute (0.4 mile) walk from Weiser Hall. The Palmer Drive Parking Structure is located at 200 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. If you need a place to park during our conference, we would recommend this parking stucture.

We are covering parking at The Graduate Ann Arbor for those staying there. Please park here overnight.

If you do not wish to walk from the hotel to Weiser Hall each day, we will reimburse you for Uber/Lyft and other modes of transportation.
