Info for Joining SEISMIC Phase Two

To join SEISMIC Phase Two, we ask that each institution work with SEISMIC to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU is a legally non-binding, organizing document intended to help institutions make appropriate campus connections prior to starting involvement in SEISMIC.  We have found in the past that our most engaged SEISMIC institutions had a strong network on their own campus to leverage SEISMIC activity. Participation in SEISMIC is voluntary and subject to each institution’s internal discretion. We share an MOU template below to help clarify what we are looking for, and encourage you to reach out to Project Manager Nita Tarchinski at nitaked@umich.edu with any questions or concerns regarding the process. Please reach out to Tarchinski to indicate interest in joining SEISMIC, even if you are still working on your MOU, so we can plan accordingly.

MOU Template

Key Elements of the MOU

Local Connection to SEISMIC

An opportunity to reflect on the synergy between local campus activity and SEISMIC’s goal of prompting a greater adoption of equity-oriented assessment practices in large introductory STEM courses across a range of institutions and departments.

Local Personnel

We ask institutions to identify individuals who would serve in different SEISMIC roles at the local campus level. We believe this combination of roles will allow institutions to make the most of SEISMIC involvement and be able to fully engage in our collaborative projects. In the MOU template, we list out the expectations for each role.
